ED TECH GRANT FORM 2 TIPS
======================================
www.nheon.org/oet/nclb
Are you a project manager for one of the NCLB Title IID
Grants? If so, please make note of the following tips about submitting OBM
Form 1 changes to your grant budgets.
·
Be sure to
send a cover letter with the Form 1 EVERY TIME you send an original or a
revised Form 1. Please do not assume I will remember previous conversations
with you about your grant or that the reason for the revision is evident from
the form. With a few hundred grants open at any given time, it is easy to
forget details about any of them without a written record. If you do not
include a cover letter explaining why the revised form is being sent,
approval of your change may be delayed.
·
Your project
start and end dates are listed on the front page of the form 1. If you need
to extend your grant, send a request to DOE at least ONE MONTH PRIOR to the
project end date and state the reason why you request an extension. If your
extension is approved, you will need to send a revised OBM Form 1 with the
new project end date listed on the form.
·
For ALL
revisions to your OBM Form 1, be sure to check the appropriate box at the top
of the form to indicate the “Type of Change.”
·
Make sure
that all critical boxes, signature lines, and other lines are completed. Be
sure to indicate who the funds are payable to in the Fiscal Agent box. Make
sure the project dates include a day, month, and year.
·
Make sure
you are using the most recent version of the Form 1. It is dated 9/2005 on
the top left corner. If you don’t have that version, go to www.nheon.org/oet/nclb to download
it.
·
ALWAYS send
a brief cover letter indicating the reason for the Form 1 change.

EQUIPMENT INVENTORY
LABELS
======================================
If you have purchased equipment
using NCLB Title II-D funds, you’ll need inventory labels for each piece of
equipment. The numbered labels simply state that the item was purchased with
federal funds. To request labels, send an email to Chiggins@ed.state.nh.us
with the following:
·
Name of your district
·
Project number of the
corresponding funds (This is a five-digit number listed at the top right
corner of the NHDOE OBM Form 2.)
·
Number of labels you need
(should match the number of equipment items you purchased)

K-12 Education; Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) Literacy
Standards; Introduction to Use of Global Positioning Systems; and Making a

RESEARCH ABOUT TEXT
MESSAGING BY KIDS
======================================
www.coventry.ac.uk/latestnewsandevents/a/2341
Contrary to popular belief, the use of text message
abbreviations is linked positively with literacy achievements,
according to work carried out by researchers at Coventry University. Mrs
Beverly Plester and Dr Clare Wood from Coventry University presented the
findings of their research (which they conducted with eleven-year old
children) at the British Psychological Society’s Developmental Section Annual
Conference at the Royal Holloway, University of London. The study explored
how the use of text abbreviations might be related to the skills children
need in reading and writing. Read more at http://www.coventry.ac.uk/latestnewsandevents/a/2341

About ET News
ET News is sent from the
Office of Educational Technology at the New Hampshire Department of
Education. ET News serves as a primary e-mail communication tool about
technology matters pertinent to NH educators. Current and previous issues are
posted on the web at www.nheon.org/oet/etnews and include
information about:
· NHDOE technology surveys and technology planning
· Federal technology funding and E-rate discounts
· Research studies, curriculum information, and
professional development related to technology implementation
Requests from service providers
to disseminate information about their technology products and services using
the electronic newsletter ET News can no longer be accommodated due to
workload priorities in OET. Providers are referred to the Reports and
Statistics section of the NHDOE website, where several data reports are
available in various formats, including School and SAU Information with
names, phone numbers, and addresses, Student Dropout Data, and more. Go to
the Reports and Statistics area of the NHDOE website at: www.ed.state.nh.us
